Pilates was designed by Joseph Pilates, a physical culturist born in Germany in 1883, developing a system of exercises that intended to strengthen the human mind and body, Joseph Pilates believed that mental and physical health are inter-related.

He first named his method Contrology (Greek word control) and helped many dancers and athletes back in his time.

One special moment we could mention would be when he reconditioned a ballet dancer that was recovering from breast cancer and had her whole breast removed.

Every doctor said she would never dance again and could never build her strength and do what she was once able to do, however Joseph Pilates didn’t agree and created a stronger and fitter dancer then before.
